Teachers of STEM – Tolita Dolzan

Tolita Dolzan is a proud First Nations Educator who began her journey with the Teachers of STEM Initiative (ToSI) in February 2021.

In 2024, Tolita completed her degree at The University of Southern Queensland, graduating with a Bachelor of Education with a STEM focus with a distinction!

During her degree Tolita had a number of life defining moments throughout her journey but finished successfully despite the setbacks. Tolita said of her ToSI experience:

“I can honestly say if I was not a part of this network, I would have quit.  I will be forever thankful for the support, encouragement and empowerment this program has offered. If you ever need me to speak openly about my ToSI experience, personal trials and tribulations, highs and lows or just to support others in the program, please don’t hesitate to reach out.”

The Institute supports participants in ToSI  with two professional development sessions, Jardibirrijba and Jardi Dadarrinyi. Tolita was inspired by the journey shared by an SSI staff member.

“With Jardi B and Jardi D – the tight circles were empowering…. When I was at the beginning of my journey Judy shared her red, black and yellow sash. I related to the story of her personal journey and I used that when I thought I couldn’t continue or complete my degree – it helped me get through the tough times.”

We have been delighted to see Tolita complete her ToSI journey and proudly wearing the red, black and yellow sash at her own graduation ceremony.
